As a Nigerian, here's my simple answer: Bad geography, poor social and economic systems, poor political systems, failing legal and social institutions, dutch disease, tribalism and others. Also, the colonialism excuse is just lazy and mainly used by tribalist Arabs as an excuse. Same way Pan-Africans use it as an excuse for Africa's failings.

@sonneh86 you are right there. Plus, winter has the benefit of reducing the spread of parasites like mosquitoes and tse-tse flies which cause high mortality. This was a huge problem for us in Africa until colonialism came and brought modern medicine, infrastructure, and methods to deal with it.

@jarexaderemi9511 you are right about that for us in Nigeria. Thankfully, as time has gone by, we are moving away from some dependence on oil. It now only brings less than 50% to our economy than in the past. Now, it's mainly the financial and services sector we are growing. Also, we recently removed our oil subsidy that was a huge drain on our economy for years but we need to do more.

@tvictor7351 thanks for telling it like it is. I absolutely agree with everything you correctly pointed out. The corruption and economic mismanagement that has led to the inflation crisis is what we need to focus on.
