I think I heard somewhere that they sometimes donate the meat to raptor conservation projects. But I dunno I haven't really looked it up myself so just know it maybe fake. But I wish it's true!
1
There are government sources for online available to the public showing the different humane ways they take down the cats. There was is more then one way luckily!
1
Please do research between a stray and feral cat ;) completely different things.
1
@reygomez8917 oh ok.... :I used to seeing a load of butthurt people here so sorry if I misunderstood anything
1
Nah they got dingos and they do actually have feral dogs, just not as many.
1
It's gonna be impossible to do with millions of kilometers of rough terrain. Thus is why they are air dropping poisoned kangaroo meat (which is kinda a controversial topic) plus, the main reason why the cats are a problem is that cats kill for sport. Instinct really. Cats are opportunits by nature, and will kill anything even if their bellies are full. They will kill as long as they are physically able to. Heck, I once saw a video of a cat with a neurological disorder and it still tried to chase down a squirrel as it flopped around.
1
There is a literal wall between ferals and domestic cats. Ferals have never interacted with humans, making them 100% wild. Strays have had contact with humans and are tameable. Ferals are almost impossible to tame.
1
@marwenlynn414 usually you don't wanna eat the cats for one reason. Please, don't continue reading if you have a weak stomach or are eating. Basically, there is an ongoing disease going around in the cats called Sarcocystis. Sarcocystis, develops cysts in your muscles. This problem has been trouble for the sheep industry, and it causes them roughly $2 million a year thanks to it. Of those sheep, people eat. I don't think very many people would enjoy eating some nice roasted cat or lamb with a "cream cheese surprise" inside. Though it is still ok to eat it as long as the meat is throughly cooked.
1
Australia along with a few other countries made it illegal to use cats as products for fur in 2007. I think the cat man most likely got a permit to do all that stuff.
1
Haha essentially that's cat calling!
1
I suggest some therapy for anger issues
1
There is a YouTuber that had the same problem, Turnah81 is their name. They are hilarious and I highly recommend you check them out for your cat problem ;)
1
@locked-down4wders671 pretty sure you are gonna need a license and a permit
1
Give the people killing hogs a pat on the back, hogs are pretty tough to kill! Luckily for where I am in the u.s. we don't have hog problems, we have whitetail deer and Asian carp trying to get into the great lakes for our problems.
1
I did some research and apparently when cats realize their population gets low they start breeding even more from instinct. I propose to prevent this is to try and sterilize as many cats as possible, then kill as many as we can. This way any cats we miss won't be able to make the next generation. I fully support the hunting, it's just that I dissagree with killing right away before sterilizing, it'll just make it worse.
1
Oddly, I feel the same way. When I see a cat that is an indoor cat i think "such a cute little boy!" But when it comes to conservation situations like this I become a mama bear, willing to rip any invasive species heads off without a moment's notice.
1
Listen here you little crap (I'm joking haha)
1
Gooood puppy lol. Please be careful because cats can carry transmittable diseases but other wise that is one good doggo. Give em some head pats for me please
1
@Valleyfornia found a YouTuber with the same problem, and he found hilarious ways to deter cats- highly recommend Turnah81
1
Oh boyyyy all heck would be let lose
1
I completely agree, and this stuck up person is harassing me about sterilization, yes we need to sterilize because when the cat population becomes low the cats have a greater urge to breed. I propose we try to sterilize all the cats first, then go and "love them" with hunting equipment. They argued you shouldn't kill even with sterilization, it won't stop the cats from killing, something needs to be done about the situation NOW, we can't wait for them to die from natural causes.
1
Pretty much unfortunately xd
1
Desexing em won't work as it's near impossible to kill em all. Plus keeping them alive won't stop them from killing and from diseases that spread. Good example of this is the Toxoplasmosis and Sarcocystis problem with sheep- that people eat. Now there's the counter argument with "we can't shoot them all" which is true, thus is why they are gonna air drop poisons. The poisons aren't exactly humane but studies have proven that they likely won't affect the native species which is crucial. But the ethics on the other hand... It's a rats nest of a situation. You pull on one string thinking it's one of the ends to only end up discovering more knots and kinks in the string. There's no guaranteed solution unfortunately.
1
@singledad6921 lol
1
Completely agree. There is an estimated 60 million homeless cats in America alone!
1
@jackt6112 I actually don't. I know all about the things you said because I'm into conservation, and my state too actually heavily depends on the fishing industry, but with Asian carp, zebra muscles, and gobies messing it up. I'm from Wisconsin, and I am quite interested in the topic. I agree, I think it is not completely inevitable to get rid of all the cats, but to benefit from it to make it a sport. If we tested the cat meat for diseases, they could donate it to ones in need. May as well exploit a the situation instead of letting it sit and rot away.
1
What's wrong with you not possibly doing research? Or are you mad at the cat taxidermy dude?
1
@aniracx4276 to me, it depends on the situation. I do agree, some of the taxidermy he does is kinda screwed up, but it tells you how many there are, to think of the feral numbers. Yea, it's creepy but he isn't letting them go to waste. Usually, I prefer taxidermy that aims at education and conservation. Some parts of the taxidermy are educational, but that curiosity thing is creepy...
1
@NikkieRoxxx even if they miss, they can track the blood trail and it's tracks to end it. It's just that sterilization won't stop the cats from killing either.
1
Yea, you can actually get paid if you bring the dead cat in.
1
I think In a government document they has a paragraph on this. I don't know how to link things by phone, but it should be easy to find if you want more info.
1
Unfortunately, there's a lot of catnip farms in Australia, so the cats have built a resistance to the smell and temptations of "getting high"
1
Feral cats wouldn't be as big of a problem if 1. Cats didn't kill for sport 2. The native species had natural defences against them
1
@MultiMadgeek "cat Slayer" has entered the chat lol
1
@user-jd9kf8ow2q Thanks! I got 10+ hours of research done on the subject for school.
1
It makes me wonder if warrior cats was in real life, how often they would have to move for prey. I mean- 1-3 critters a night per cat per warrior... Holy moly warrior cats are spawnkilling XD
1
You do realize that they are releasing quolls to help when an area is culled of cats right? They are also already culling those animals too so it'll hopefully even out
1
Random fact: that opossum was a brush tailed opossum. Nobody probably cares but I just wanted that to get out there.
1
Nah these guys are heros. Reason for this if you saw in the video, feral cats kill millions of native wildlife a year. I think there was a video somewhere were it said 306million ferals in Australia, 2-3 animals per cat a night, and even then sometimes cats hunt for sport. If you want more info, there are Australian government documents on this and the planning behind it. I find it very interesting!
1
Yes there is. It's 10-20$ per scalp. Reason why I know this is because I'm doing a school project about the situation. Mainly the ecology of Australia, biology of cats, and the government's way of dealing with the situation.
1
Look at your states hunting/trapping laws, or go to r/legal help. I did the same thing to see if I could legally trap invasive house sparrows without a license. Turns out you can trap a crap load of things without a license in Wisconsin lol. Cats would technically be under the invasive category in certain situations. But I'd still look at your states laws to keep out of trouble.
1
@jgarnhum8366 thanks for understanding! :)
1
Pfft well said...... Unfortunately....
1
Why? Do research before hating please. That's why this video even exists. I hope you watched the whole video instead of just commenting on the video right away...
1
@BerryCrush19 basically cats are HORRIBLE to any environment they aren't native to, which is parts of Africa. Anywhere else they are terrible
1
They do actually poison em, and in many different methods too.
1
Im not sure about the legality of trapping in the areas you are talking about, but live traps might be allowed.
1
Pffttt haha you didn't learn anything did you?
1
Thank you for keeping an open mind to the situation unlike many closed minded cat lovers. I too love animals but when it comes to conservation I am willing to go full on doom guy on invasive species lol
1
Pfffttt sorry I kinda laughed it this, rude of me I know. But the government approved of this. There are multiple Australian government sources about this online! It's really interesting and I highly recommend research on this!
