  3. @ Understood. We could argue about who we like as actors until the cows come home, and it ends up as subjective taste. There was a mystery to film stars. But they were also actual “film stars”. Like him or not, Cruise is the last movie star.

  10. We all understand that everyone/ every thing is a potential comedy target.. Trump is satirical gold. But where was Hanks blasting “ cancel culture” in the last decade? I am not a “brilliant” SNL writer, but did anyone suggest that a trans satire, incorporating his “Bosom Buddies” character( 40 years later), might hit? I doubt it.

  11. You can loathe their politics, but all three have made great films. The problem with celebrity is that we were never “meant” to know these people. The only connection we need is with the screen. I never knew a thing about Newman, Mitchum, and Brando. I got what I wanted from them.

  12. Agreed. He played a guy pretending to be a woman in a television show. “That” had a ton of material built in, but he won’t do that skit.

  13. He has been a clown/ hack for a quarter of a century. His best work was between 75 and 95, and he has been cashing checks ever since. His job is to act, to entertain. He can’t even do that, outside of running his mouth.

  14. I agree with that interpretation, but is not funny, and it is lazy writing. There are several ways to handle racial humor, and be daring about it. “Daring” would be incorporating trans satire with his “Bosom Buddies” character.
