On the one side (the Right as he defined it), you have people defending the actual existing fascist policies of the government actually in power; on the other, posters making the claim "all whites are racist" on a handful of street lights somewhere. Yet to the centrist mind these things are equally bad...

  2.  The Judgemental Cat  The centre is rational? The fact that you think that's in anyway an argument goes to what I said. Marxists see themselves as rational, using theoretical frameworks to understand social relations as a whole. The race realists see themselves as the most rational, as they've abandoned commonplace morality and realise the true underlying reality. Anarchists and libertarians argue that they are rational as their proposals most match up with their (conflicting) conceptions of human nature. And the morons of the IDW claim they're rational because they advocate liberal capitalism, a system currently working to make humanity extinct. Rationality isn't standardised thing with specific policy recommendations attached to it. So, if you want to claim it for "your side", you're going to have to do a little more than simply yell (in the same toddler-esqe way Pinker's Enlightenment Now reads), "it's mine!" And stop acting like everyone's grandpa, with the "you need to think like me before you're allowed to make political decisions". It's just embarrassing.

I eagerly await you calling me "intellectually dishonest", "malevolent" for good measure, and murmuring something about Scottish men.   4.  The Judgemental Cat  I think anyone else reading our exchange would conclude that guy who called the other "full of shit", and has been gradually making less and less sense as his BS was called out, is more likely the one "lashing out". Let me remind you what happened here. - I highlighted how self-declared centrists use the stupid, trivial framing of the "culture war" in order to ignore reality. Both-siding in the stupidest way. - You told me I was full of shit and that centrism is about "being rational". You also channelled everyone's least favourite grandparent. Specifics or detail of any sort were lacking from your response. - I pointed out how that isn't an argument, and showed how lots of groups claim they are rational - and actually have some sort of justification for saying so. - You called this a strawman fallacy, in an angsty sort of way. (BTW: this makes no sense in the context.) - I commented on how that response is typical of ideologically-blinded centrist types. - You then angrily bashed the keyboard, as in an attempt to convince me how angry I am. You also told me disagreeing with centrists is "shocking" to you. If this is all too much for you, please take a break.
