  1. Intelligent conservatives - see Hume and Burke - realised that their politics was all about feelings over facts. They argued that the emotions provided social cohesion and led people to abide by tradition. Hume, for example, wrote: reason is, and ought to be, the slave of the passions. The fact that the new conservatives - IDW - are completely ignorant of their intellectual tradition is both tragic and hilarious.
