I know runic is not as well studied, but you can definitely see some links. I'm guessing the 'g' sound in runic, which was represented by X has a common origin or is taken from Greek X. There are also some more obvious ones like Birch-ᛒ and Oþal-ᛟ looking like Omega.

@ashbridgeindustries Nope. Came about the same way as it did in Dutch. You is actually the first person plural... As it still is. But it was polite to address a single person in this plural form. However while Dutch developed jullie (je lui, you lot) for the plural, English kept it to function for both. And also while Dutch developed a new polite form 'u', English I'm pretty sure, did not. So in reality we Dutch and you English are constantly being very polite to eachother without realizing it.
