Then there’s of course the ‘vikang’ invasion that left its mark mostly in the north-east and not to forget the Anglo-Saxons which made all the brits speak English. As to what degree current Englanders descend from each I’d love to see studied, if it hasn’t been already. But I’m fairly certain that the britannic blood is still there.

I just had the barber cut it to JUST OVER MY SHOULDERS but in about the same model. I love it, bit more practical and still looks kinda the same. Because ye hair that long is a pain to maintain. Btw I totally recognize the almost autistic obsession with just anything to the point where I researched the whole facial structure stuff etc etc just to find the right haircut. So basically OPTION 3 would be good but keep the beard please, I think that would look great.

He looked foreign to them, and I wasn’t convinced at any point in the story that they had a close relationship and were family (that’s what tribes were). I therefor also did not BUY his change of allegiance, it just didn’t look convincing. The barbarian clothes didn’t suit him AT ALL, while that SHOULD have been a moment of AAAH he is home now. But I think they specifically chose him BECAUSE he looks Roman. Perhaps to stress the fact that he was very much bound and integrated to Rome. And to make his betrayal as such more ‘shocking’. Still, I dislike this. Tacitus described the Germani as all looking nearly the same with blonde hair and blue eyes. And to make Arminius, Hermann, look like a not so tough Roman is disappointing.

  53. I think you’re overstating diversity here. Yes there were multiple ethnicities IN Egypt. But that doesn’t mean Egyptians were ‘diverse’. As you stated before, Egyptians are drawn consistently the same, very UNdiverse. It’s like saying Dutch people are very diverse because we have a bunch of foreigners living here. We are not diverse, we have a variety of blonde hair, blue eyes and pale skin. On top of a prominent brow ridge with deep lying eyes. Everything else is either foreign admixture or weak faces from mouth breathing. You’ll see this in the countryside and small towns where pretty much everyone looks exactly as described. And this is confirmed over and over again by ancient sources, with Tacitus being the most well known.

  65. My complaint: Black haired Germans is not a realistic depiction. They were very clearly described with blonde hair and a ruddy complexion. Just like the Gauls. Can’t just ignore historical accounts because you have to make racial distinctions. I think the native Celts and Germans DESERVE to have their ancestors depicted PROPERLY.

  70. I don't know. I feels as though maces and warhammers were cavalry weapons as that's the only context I've found them in. What I have seen in infantry hands is something that looks similar, which is like the short form of a pollaxe. With an axe blade on one side, blunt piece on the flip side and a pointy end. For example on Froissarts depiction of Crecy or Auray, can't remember which one. But obviously if you have examples showing it I would love to see it.

However we are humans just as people in the past were. So inevitably we are drawn towards the same behavior, good or bad. It hasn't been THAT long since the classical period or middle ages. If you drop a modern person into that world they would learn to adapt and over time you would hardly know they are from our time.
