Hypothetically. What if people used the buckler in battle because they had simply become so used to using it alongside a sword in civilian life and dueling practice? They were just, more effective with it because of experience.

I don't know. I feels as though maces and warhammers were cavalry weapons as that's the only context I've found them in. What I have seen in infantry hands is something that looks similar, which is like the short form of a pollaxe. With an axe blade on one side, blunt piece on the flip side and a pointy end. For example on Froissarts depiction of Crecy or Auray, can't remember which one. But obviously if you have examples showing it I would love to see it.
