  1. I've played 11s for years too, if you got the right setup and technique, you won't be breaking them. I play my guitar every day, and I've gotten super lazy with replacing strings, and it has had he same set of 11s for longer than I can remember, 3+ years. I'll be replacing them soon though, thinking of going either lower or higher.

  3. Forgetting one thing, before the option of lighter strings was around, people would play the 12s and 13s with a wound G that they were used to from the steelstring acoustic. It's a matter of setting up the action correctly. Although you really won't be doing much bending.
