  1. I found myself doing the same thing. I first thought it was because I'm not a native English speaker. But then I realized that, normally when your mind drifts off or if you simply couldn't understand what someone said, you just go "huh?" or "sorry, what did you say?". And since you simply can not make an actor rephrase his sentence, you need subtitles. And it's much like you said, people speak naturally on camera now, expecting to always be understood.
