“Arguably nothing much had changed there”. Well in fact, modern day working class isn’t much more than a serf, even middle class people are just serfs with privileges. There are no free men in modern society. The closest you’ll get is people with lots of land and a decent chunk of money.

I guess you get very angry from not being able to scratch and channel the fury into battle.

Knew it at once from the thumbnail. Unmistakable long slender beige body.

Odd! I think in Salic Frankish law it was cheaper to kill a Roman although I'm not entirely sure. Could also be more expensive. The reality is that killing foreigners has some very real political consequences which could unsettle the peace. So it makes sense to make those fines higher. Whereas, if they're at odds with another nation, it makes sense to lower the fine.

I feel like you just made this video to wake people up to the fact that they are no better than medieval serfs. Even if people realized, they’d be too scared to fight for something better.

Who pays for the isotope analysis?

Yeah I realized camping was more a military thing as I could only find images of tents in the context of a military encampment.

@Beunibster Ye I’m in my 20’s and my great grandfather is from 1900.

Here in my area of small villages, all main roads are named after the town they are next to. So the towns main road that I live in is named after the town to our east, and that towns main road is named after our town, very cute. Exactly as you described around 4:40 , it’s very prominent here, I love it.

Just want to say, mad respect for making this channel and putting your time and resources into REAL and LIVE history lessons for FREE. Learnt a lot from your channel.
2
Honestly every time I see a video of yours I'm happy!
2
That face at the beginning tells me: “I know you haven’t and I know I’m a mad man, but we’re doing it anyways”. Also, is this what ‘rejecting modernity’ looks like at its peak power? Retvrn!

17:35 "People fall over when they're drunk, they did back then, they're still doing it today". And that people, is the power of tradition. ;)
2
I love the “oh” sounding like instant regret. Whole video reminds me of Elon Musk throwing in the ‘indestructable’ car windows.
2
About halfway into the video I remembered that I dreamt about horseriding a few hours ago.
2
Next video you have to dress the part. With codpiece of course. ;) P.S. Look up "Boijmans Feldtwaybel", Boijmans is the museum/collection.
2
@ModernKnight Thanks for your reply, it's always good to hear both sides of the argument. And I didn't realize they were only looking at peak pressure, thanks for pointing that out.

@foldionepapyrus3441 Having no responsibilities isn’t freedom, it’s hell. Freedom is being able to stand on your own two legs, without having to bow to anyone that you don’t like. Now go and pay your debt to the bank wagie!

I mean the whole nobility things is about prowess in battle, especially leadership. So it makes much sense that good fighters would be free men.

It's... Pepper? Or some other exotic herb.

What if the reasoning for full riveting reveals itself in battle? Wasn't that also the era plate came about? Just a guess. Perhaps mail would usually break at the rivets because the solid rings were much firmer, making the riveted links a weak link. And that with everything riveted the stress is more even on all rings when struck. And that wedged rivets would allow for a faster production, allowing them to make a better mail within a shorter time frame. Again, just a guess, I do not own mail.

Lmao I was looking on my phone and for the first few seconds I thought it was Lloyd

So what I don’t get is, why not just let the cows go there themselves to eat the hay?

I always thought Rhinish wine was a bit sour. Because when we say 'Rinse appelstroop' it's supposedly sour.

@thatladfromthe40s82 What? A fair system? You know what a fair system is? Forming a community with your family that actually cares for you and helps you in tackling the world. And not letting yourself get bullied by big corporations. Today's 'system' is crony capitalism with a drip for the 'normal people' paired with some fearmongering so that they don't rise up. There are no fair 'systems' that anyone can create. Just become independant and free of this cancerous society, that is your only way to freedom and a fair life.

I was wondering what kind of materials people used to maintain their steel and iron before we had fossil oils. I always hear about 'oiling' or 'greasing' up armor and swords as well as polishing and so forth. But I just wonder how they did that back then! Perhaps this would make a good topic for a video?

Anything on food when traveling? Would they have so much money they could buy it all? Were they allowed to hunt? Any foraging skills we know of? Any specific food prep for travel food?
1
@ModernKnight what kind of oil?
1
Nice, reminds me of the horse archers. But ye striking is different because you have to lean to strike which sends the horse a signal.

Perhaps if we all stopped playing video games...

Is it right then to assume producing manuscripts was expensive work. And thus that whoever dared to commission a copy of pagan poems in christian times must’ve been some rich man in Iceland who just couldn’t let go of old traditions. Perhaps even Snorri himself...?
1
I was expecting a: “Let’s find out” at the beginning.
1
I like how you used the word 'fightbooks' as a translation of the German word, rather than loaning it. Very good!
1
Has it ever occurred to you how weird it is we just sit on the backs of other animals? They’re not made for it you know and their backs do suffer from it.
1
@sherrieludwig508 Pretty bad analogy since shoes have been destroying people's posture for a very long time. Yes horses have been bred to be a lot stronger. What about the claim that their backs go numb because of the pressure and the claim that their back DOES collapse over time in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYmfr-K6FzE&ab_channel=OurHorses

Great, now I’m hungry.
