As a Dutch person from a South Hollandish city, I can get pretty close by just bending my jaw into my throat. We also have a gutteral R, but not NEARLY as throaty as Danish.

@awm9290 NO. Modern Icelandic does NOT sound like Old Icelandic. Just like modern English does NOT sound like Old English. Check out Crawfords YouTube channel.

What about THEIR language. Why do we know so little about it?

Norwegian sounds like it’s galloping.

For some reason I started shifting into an Aussie accent as I was trying to do the Shakespearian one, even though I've never been good at the Australian accent... Australian immediately made a lot more sense to me.

I Dutch it's literally still eieren, which is pronounced almost exactly as it was in the video.

Mind blowing and also not. They were all THE SAME language some 2000 years ago. It's like when you see a Dutch person and you're like, WOW they look so similar to Norwegians! The same people, the same language and culture, just 2000 years later.

I feel as though lack of documentation and study of the languages by native speakers is the main problem here. I guess they just don't care. They know already themselves what tribes they belong to.

Wow. Ais, aiser? That's literally ás æsir from Old Norse!

@BurnBird1 That's unlikely.

I wonder if birds of different species understand each other, I’m guessing not… Just as humans don’t.

Why are you rhyming, is this meant to be poetry?! I wouldn't mind if the speech would still be understandable but there's too much French in there.

Not quite. The trill is more common.

What if the 'entire world' to the people who wrote that phrase was the entire world that they knew, being the semitic one. In that case, not wrong. The problem is that christians have tried to force jewish religion as something international that applies to everybody in the world, it doesn't. It's just a middle-eastern Semetic cult, with stories about them and their neighbours.

Every time I heard older versions of English, I'm just like, that's Dutch. Modern Dutch word for eggs is... Eieren.

I wish I could go back in time to have first contact language and culture learning from my ancestors in (Northern) Europe.
