The Song of Ice and fire fantasy is a much better one than the ones where "the good person" wins. Because it teaches you the complexities of reality, how in order to succeed honor and truthfulness aren't enough, although they may be perceived as virtuous. Those other stories teach us a lie. Honor is a way to show others that you have a moral compass and that you follow it, and that you can be trusted. That means it's a good tool to gain allies and keep good friends. However when someone has determined you are in their way and will get rid of you by any means, then it isn't very clever to act honorably toward them in turn.
