  3. I think the solar analysis is good. I think that's what he really believed. I think early christians saw this as an opportunity and offered to fund his army, then became his councilors and eventually convinced him that in fact this solar god he worshipped was the christian god. He probably became in dire need for money to challenge his brother in law. Perhaps the deal was to fully convert in exchange for continued monetary support, put christian symbols everywhere and support the christian cause.

  4. This seems universal to me. In Norse sagas you’ll see that a sacrifice is always also a feast. With some portion being given to the gods, whose mouths are dogs, wolves, eagles, ravens etc.
