I'll start by saying that we HAVE a description of Karl the Great, Charlemagne. He was blonde, had blue eyes and was very tall. So stop that brown/black hair brown eyes bullcrap. He looked nothing like southern French look today. He looked very very Germanic because he WAS Germanic, Frankish. The Gauls too were described in the same fashion. So the only swarthy features present in Gaul were Roman, not because the Romans were swarthy, but because the Romans let in tons of foreigners from the entire mediteranean into their empire. And maybe from the Iberians too who eventually also came from Africa.
