  1. For me I think it's not talking down per se. It's just showing that you are confident in what you think and then teasing them a bit. They will realize you are confident enough to risk upsetting them, and they like this. This makes for a fun interaction. But the reality is that this will come naturally if you feel okay about yourself around this person, you can't pretend this way if you actually think you're not good enough.

  2. It's not a 'double standard'. Men and women both have preference for a partner. I will not respond positively to flirting by someone who I'm not attracted to either. The only reason women can be quite harsh, is because their only defense mechanism is to trow a fuss about something so that others may step in if needed. So if they feel someone is a creep, they will feel panic and react very harshly very openly. Also there is no absolute when it comes to 'attractive men'. You can be attractive to one woman, and not to another. You will know soon enough by actually trying to make eye contact and talk. Their body language will tell you as well as their voice tone, very quickly.

  3. Maybe it's because the rest of his body posture is so stiff. I always have great results when just making eye contact, they smile, I smile. This works.
