  1. Yeah already Tacitus described the Suebi as the largest German tribe. And much like all other Germanic tribes, they were very expansionist (yes we have been for a few thousand years, not just the last century). In fact the first mention of them is when they cross the Rhine to the west to rule over Gaullic lands.

  6. I actually think 'standard German' sounds like complete ass. I have no idea where it comes from. I checked out almost all the real German tongues and they sounded great. Love Alemannic, love Suebian, love plattduutsch. What am I missing? Where does this horrible accent come from? And which idiot decided to make it 'standard'?
