  1. Something I've noticed already in my short time in University is that there is always a timeframe/limit. This really pushes people to parrot what they've been told, rather than to look critically. Because you are always encourage to make something new, rather than to critically analyse the old.

  2. Prove it. There is no word nor mention of such a thing in any source regarding Norse and other Germanic peoples. The word tattoo is literally a modern borrowing from the Polynesians. If we did tattoo ourselves in the past, we would've had a word for it. We don't.

  3. People often forget that Germans still speak German because of this very thing. And since English people are German, same goes for them. And that would also mean Americans would be speaking a Latin language if our ancestors didn't stand their ground. And that'd mean the international language would've been a Latin language too.

And your reading list consists solely of modern sources which isn't that helpful as they often insert their own imaginations into the matter.

  9. You are making these emperors a lot darker than they realistically were. Yes a lot of Romans had quite a bit of Anatolian Farmer DNA, which gives them their mediterranean appearance, bit like Sardinians. But they had light to slightly tinted skin, despite their dark hair and eyes. They were not brown. And in fact if you look at busts of Augustus, Julius Caesar and Nero and hear how they were described, they don't even look mediterranean at all. In fact they look 'German', Indo-European. For example Neros hair was 'subflavus', yellowish and had 'gray to blue eyes'. Same goes for Augusts and Caesar.

  11. Honestly I hate to tell you to fire someone, but if anyone, drop the voice over. I much prefer your voice, it's natural, easy to listen to. While the voice over sounds forced and unnatural, I have to really concentrate in order not to get annoyed by it.

  16. What's the source on how the hanging and sacrificing was done and so forth, seems quite detailed. Fairly sure I haven't come across such a detailed account in Germania. They just mention how crimes were punished by means of tree hanging and marsh plunging.

  18.  @BBweed420  I don’t think you understand how advanced people were back then. The only thing really separating them and us is automation. Automation has been a long process, starting with letting animals work for us, then the river, then the wind, and eventually steam and other forms of gas. But nearly every process we have automated was already doable by hand in Roman times. So it just took more physical labor and time.

  19. What you said in fact is offensive to me. We literally stand on the shoulders of our ancestors, they are us, we are them. It’s not like we suddenly got really smart and invented all these things in the past 20 years. It has been piecing a thing together, then passing it on, which leads to another thing which is then passed on again, slowly expanding our knowledge over generations. If we’d have to start from scratch every generation, we would still not even have figured out how to make tools, communicate by speech, let alone make a fire. In fact, we would have gone extinct in the blink of an eye. So show some respect to yourself and your ancestors for discovering and passing on all these amazing techniques. Your viewpoint is idiotic, I’m sorry to say.

  20. I think it's interesting everyone depicts the driver kneeling. Even though I think on the coin it's quite clear they're just sitting on their bums. Kneeling on such a bumpy ride you wouldn't last for a few minutes.

  23. The depiction of red haired norsemen/germanic people needs to stop. This is often done because 'rutilus', the word in Latin to describe the color of the hair of Germanic peoples, was initially translated to 'red' by some English translators. The issue however is that 'rufus' is red, not 'rutilus'. And when you dive even a little bit into this subject you will find this word is still used in Italian and also as a loanword in English, to describe a GOLDEN mineral with a red TINT called RUTILE. The word that we would use for this in modern language is BLONDE, strawberry BLONDE. Yes, unsurprisingly, the same people that are now blonde with blue eyes, were blonde with blue eyes back then as well! Stop messing with our heritage!
