It has seen massive depopulation in the last four decades. Most who move away are glad to and only return for family reasons. The delusions of grandeur many in the place suffer from are a good example of surrealism.

Good to see you are happy in Liverpool but when I lived in different parts of London in the 1990s and early 2000s I did not encounter snobbery towards the north west or elsewhere in the country. It is a myth peddled and believed by many that the north west and elsewhere is friendly. One of the friendliest places I lived in is Wimbledon Park, which had its own community association and a really positive vibe in the area generally.

@jamesbong4928 Correct.

No such place.

Ormskirk is not just outside Liverpool.

High crime and levels of ASB. A culture of silence when it comes to speaking to the Police. Most gun crime in Britain has links to Liverpool according to official figures recently reported in the media. Boastful unsubstantiated claims about being the friendliest and funniest people in the country/ world/ universe. Not statistically possible but reality rarely intrudes. McDonalds in the centre of Liverpool had to impose a curfew due to ASB. Poor quality education in general and high levels of poverty just outside the centre. Entrenched for decades. The negative attitudes of many of its citizens have spread out to other places in the area- it can be seen on the street. A major drug problem too.

The culture of silence in Liverpool suggests strongly that the sense of justice is selective. Heysel has been largely airbrushed from history. Shameful.

Exactly. There is no evidence for this. Only stupid people make such boasts about being the friendliest and funniest people in the UK. Absurd.

Managed decline was never Tory policy. Thatcher destroyed the UK and we are living in Thatcher's Britain today with its poisonous legacy that has left Britain in terminal and probably irreversible decline. But Heseltine deserves credit for his work in the money that went into rejuvenating the place after the Toxteth riots in 1981. The International Garden Festival was a good example of this in 1984.
