They had to give two weeks notice so for most it is no more than inconvenience. No one likes it but the world does not revolve around the needs of individuals alone. The claims that the strike is responsible for deaths due to medical treatment deferred is disgusting. It is up to hospitals to work around it as I am sure they have. Austerity was responsible for thousands of deaths according to official figures. If pay had not been depressed in the interests of the rich, there would be no need to strike.

It would be no surprise if there is a repeat of the riots of 2011. Law breaking is not acceptable, however unrest on the streets cannot be ruled out. I doubt the claimed 12,000 police on the streets of London actually happened in 2011 to stop the riots, not least because there were no pictures of the massed ranks of police on any television channel. Police cuts ( they have been reversed but it will take time to cancel this out entirely) will make it far more difficult to keep the lid on it this time and the anger is even greater than 2011.
