The RMT have not given power to workers. They have made a lot of noise and highlighted the issues, but their strike campaign has not succeeded to date. The rhetoric is compelling, but it is short on results. Most workers are not unionised and there is little solidarity in many sectors. Only half of teachers are in a union, remarkably (or not), and it is unlikely the NEU ballot for strike action will reach the 50% threshold needed for action. It is notable that teachers in Scotland where there is a more solidarity have voted to strike- I don't think their ballot was open for anywhere near as long as NEU and NASUWT, which is telling about the difficulty of securing support for action. Even a pay cut of over 20% since 2010 is not enough to persuade teachers to strike. Shameful and predictable. Unite is effective as are some other unions, but some are weak. Less than 5M people in Britain are in unions and most members don't care about issues much, if at all. Millions are largely unaffected by the cost of living and will vote Tory. Working people in England can be relied upon to vote against their own interests in the never ending Tory nightmare.

Enough is Enough is failing- not many attend its rallies and its website is not even kept up to date. It is now largely a slogan without impact. The RMT supports Brexit when 56% of those surveyed recently oppose it. Why does the left media not question the RMT about Brexit, the consequences of which it is fighting against? Why does the media not ask questions about the lack of progress in the RMTs strike action to date? The cause is right, the workers are being denied by government but it is going around in circles. The constant refrain of Mick and Eddie are great rings hollow to my ears.
