@DavidKnowles0 Corporations can still be rich in a mixed economy but they have to be regulated and taxed properly. They have to be required to exercise social responsibility for the common good. Corporations as friends sounds like a Blairite euphemism for deregulated laissez faire, entirely fitting for a Labour Party that has betrayed the majority. Corporations have captured the state when it is the state that has the power to legislate in the interests of the common good but is too timid to do so- another victory for neoliberalism. Roosevelt was no socialist but he recognised and acted upon the urgent need to reign in business in the New Deal. By the standards of Starmer's Labour he would be a communist.

@RandallSlick It is the opposite of what you say- reasoned analysis of the fact Labour has no meaningful answers to the problems Britain is facing. It is the red Tories who insist on not changing the record- neoliberalism is the poisonous Tory ideology that has destroyed Britain with the connivance of Labour since Blair.

@trevfindley Nothing at all- the answer can only be more privatisation and profiteering by the rich, disinvestment in public services, a smaller state, low tax for the rich, targeting of the unemployed and benefits claimants, scapegoating of immigrants to appease reactionary and nasty voters, lack of regulation of corporations, widening inequality, private affluence and public squalor, low productivity, the lowest pensions in Europe and lack of workers' rights. Neoliberalism is working so well under the Tories that it can only go from strength to strength under the red Tories. Not to mention the dying planet caused by neoliberalism's rampant excesses that have brought the world to the brink of no return. All good, nothing to see here, business as usual.

@Entropic_Meat_Machine Labour 1997 to 2010 capitulated to Thatcherism and was nowhere near as 'radical' as Blairites like to pretend. It did not tax the rich properly, subsidised low wages via tax credits and failed to redistribute wealth. It could have done far, far more with a huge majority but betrayed the majority, hence the large numbers who deserted it in this period.

Just Stop Oil should be backed by everyone. Any government will say it is not listening the world over but protest works. Voting is not the only way to change things and rarely counts, especially given Labour's capture by corporations and surrender to neoliberalism under Blair. JSO and other similar groups are on the right side of history and Labour is not fit for office. It will be a shambolic government if it wins the GE. Watch this space.
