Precisely. The gap reduced in the UK post 1945 for thirty years- the Thatcher/ neoliberal project was designed to reverse this, and succeeded beyond anything it could have imagined.

@racerook7237 Wealth creation is to be welcomed but the proceeds have to be shared equitably to avoid the grotesque levels of income inequality in the UK unless society is prepared to go back to the future with 1920s/ 30s levels of poverty. Some take risks but many do not yet still make vast amounts of money. The rich can still be rich but those with the broadest shoulders must pay more in tax, be it in the form of income tax, corporation tax, wealth and land taxes, or a combination of any of any of these.

Not a cost of living crisis, for sure. Only partially a cost of greed crisis. The elephant in the room that the political class and voters refuse to recognise is that this is an income inequality crisis. Income inequality is rife in the sixth richest country on earth and the most unequal in Europe after Bulgaria. The average family in France and Germany is 10 and 20% better off, respectively. Income inequality is key to the neoliberal project ( also embraced by Labour since Blair) in order to transfer wealth from the majority to the rich one per cent. Without solving income inequality, nothing will improve for the majority.

@chocolatesugar4434 The system is rigged in favour of the rich by design. The voters have been deluded enough to fall for it since 1979. The British version of the American Dream where the people are expected to venerate the rich, hope it could be them one day (like a lottery) and accept crumbs from the table.
