@upshankkumalu9301 Incorrect. A number of unions are not affiliated to the Labour Party. Statistical evidence ( look it up) shows that wages have fallen in real terms since 2008 and over the longer term.

@upshankkumalu9301 No, it is a realistic assessment of how weak the unions are. Best not to get hopes up when low living standards are here to stay. I was a union rep. for 12 years in total in the 1990s and 2000s, and despite trying to help people it was overall a waste of time.

Many of the unions are going to sell out the workers with pathetic pay 'deals' that will do nothing to halt the worst drop in living standards since the 1950s. It is not like this in many other countries. Government is to blame first and foremost but workers are ill served by many ineffective unions that are full of hot air and deliver little. The NEU may not reach the threshold for strike action, which speaks volumes about the lack of solidarity in education. Even if it does, it is advocating strike action which will end in a deal close to what the pay review body has recommended and the government has already accepted. The NEU issue is the fact government will not fund it in full which raises the prospect of redundancies in schools. But this is for the union to address not every single teacher it is leading into strike action that will achieve almost nothing in terms of pay.

@upshankkumalu9301 Nonsense. Most unequal country in Europe apart from Bulgaria. Use of selective figures cannot disguise the fact that rampant inflation and year on year poor pay deals wipe out any supposed increase in disposable income. I won't be responding to anything else you post as it is clear you possess a very negative attitude towards the real difficulties millions are facing.

Theatre. Nothing more. Most of the unions are going to sell out the workers with pathetic pay 'deals' which will be real terms pay cuts, and do nothing to to arrest the steepest drop in living standards since the 1950s. Around 8 million adults in Britain have the numeracy levels of a primary school student, a national scandal that no-one has ever addressed. No wonder millions have no idea how severely their income has been hammered and will continue to be for years to come. Government is to blame first and foremost but it is clear the RMT is not getting anywhere with its strikes yet no-one questions this.
