Comments by "80s Music" (@eightiesmusic1984) on "Labour MP grills Tory minister over Matt Hancock's leaked pandemic WhatsApp messages" video.
Is this the same Liz Kendall who lost to Corbyn in the Labour leadership contest? Thought so. Labour under Starmer supports neoliberalism which has killed far more people through neglect of their needs on many levels than the pandemic has. Tory handling of the pandemic is a disgrace but Labour has no intention of reversing neoliberalism. The Corbyn government many in the PLP fought to prevent would have listened to the science and the result would have been a much lower death toll. The irony of Kendall and the rest of Labour beggars belief.

She did not. I remember the interview and was appalled at the tone of the questioning. Rightly, government should be held to account but there are effective ways of doing so. I do not believe Morgan was a good interviewer.

@1inchPunchBowl You mean 'were you?'. Now I have deciphered your poor grammar. Oh dear indeed.

@Nawitisnae Yes, they are incompetent as government but the interview was appalling. I could put someone under pressure in such a setting if I wanted to but just because I could does not mean I would because it is wrong and coarsens the culture we live in.

@DJWESG1 My priorities in opposing neoliberalism are doing just fine, if you are referring to me. The BMA published evidence that Iraq resulted in up to I million civilian deaths meaning your figure of 100,000 grossly understates the extent of the culpability of coalition forces for the carnage of that needless conflict. It has destabilised the world and disfigured the UK body politic, undermining faith in what passes for democracy.

@wanderingfool6312 Clearly you do not understand. Neoliberalism has been implemented since 1979 under Tory and Labour governments. Blair capitulated to neoliberalism ( also known as Thatcherism) from 1997. Privatisation, austerity, low wages, low taxes for the rich resulting in less investment in public services, widening inequality and weak unions via reducing workers' rights are some of the main planks of the ideology that has destroyed Britain except for the rich. Wealth has been transferred from workers to the rich. Ironic you cite austerity given that it has been used since 1979 and Labour supported it from 2010. Austerity has killed thousands since 2010 and for decades before that. It is not necessary to list every instance where neoliberal policies have caused premature deaths but the broad argument is correct. If you want specifics I am sure you can look it up to do some reading.

@call_in_sick Forget it. No.

@williamgannaway8183 Not sure, I'll have to check. Answers on a post card. If you think Starmer is going to fix the country by following the same policies you are delusional.

@GW2LearningResource I was referring to one specific interview. Robust interviewing is desirable in general and too often the British media bowls soft questions because it is part of the problem. I wouldn't defend poor grammar if I were you when you don't realise there is an apostrophe missing in your last sentence. Amazing how many people in the UK are so upset when bad grammar is pointed out. No wonder education standards of the general population are so abysmal.

@yetidodger6650 If you understood the nuances of human behaviour in how people respond it would be clear she is not laughing. It is obvious that she does not find it funny.

Alex Holmes It was not amusement. I am not a body language expert but I know the difference between amusement and what in her case I think was some sort of nervous response. I am fairly sure a body language expert would concur though. The Tories handling of Covid was appalling but it serves no purpose when some people want to think she was laughing which does not bear scrutiny. No politician would be stupid enough to laugh at such an issue and it is clear she was not remotely amused.
