Nordic Fella true but the majority of the elves and men that opposed Sauron during the second age weren’t of the same quality as the ones morgoth faced. There’s also the fact that there was a large time gap (around 1,000 years) between the war of the elves and Sauron and the war of the last alliance during the second age. The war against morgoth occurred almost constantly during the first age with around 100-200 years of relative peace. There’s also the fact that morgoth had to deal with opponents like Feanor, Fingolfin, Maedhros, Hurin, Turin, Barahir, Finrod, Fingon, and Turgon (all of whom were at least as strong as the opponents that Sauron faced. I’m not denying that Sauron wasn’t successful, I’m only pointing out that morgoth only focused on beleriand because that was where the biggest threats to his rule was (that and he had already partially corrupted the other groups of men who had not headed to beleriand)
