I agree, most zombie movies end with some of the characters making it to safety (or leaving the area) in the end but the remake of Dawn of the Dead shows some of the characters making it to the Island only to find more zombies. It also heavily implies that they got killed (the boat was out of gas, they only had 1-2 guns, and they had a large group of zombies coming at them from the island with no escape route other than going into the lake and trying to swim away)
