I find myself forced to disagree. This was unplanned. The main datapoints for this is the lack of Wagner resistance against the Chechen 'tiktok army' invading from the east (while anyone would've foreseen the Chechen warlord would jump at the opportunity) and Wagner having to move AA defenses in response to bombing (in a planned advance these would be around the Rostov HQ and advance north along with the troops). For me the explanation is Russia is desperately low on manpower. Wagner was able to basically advance 500-700+ km in a day and force Putin to flee from Moscow because what they encountered were mainly Rosgardia units and a handful of recovering former casualties on light duties. Much like Prigozhin himself stated 'anyone who can shoot is already on the frontlines'. Even Redut and Patriot failed to make an appearance, while the private armes of Shoigu and Gerasimov would surely protect their (co-)owners. These would've dropped everything and attacked Wagner, if they had any unengaged strength left.
