I think ultimately, AI will lead to stagnation and ultimately decline in creativity and development because AI cannot truly generate anything new, only recompile that which already exists. But of course by the time that realization sets in and its effects are felt, most everyone will be jobless.

@ChemistTea If you think AI actually creates, then you don't understand AI. It's in the code. The programmers of AI themselves even admit AI does not truly create, only repackages and recompile that which already exists. It's not that computers will never be sentient, it's that computers can never be sentient.

A deeper question for many in the comments is why would you even be okay with relinquishing human creativity and imagination over to machines? Why would you yield our hearts and emotions, which alone are capable of understanding beauty and love, over to cold, unfeeling metal and silicon? As a living, feeling creature, would you find value in such a world? To me, that would be a frozen, lifeless island of existence.

@P T What you're essentially saying is humans learn through experience. This has been a well-established fact of science for centuries. But what you're doing is conflating how humans acquire and express knowledge with how computers acquire and express knowledge. You're equating epistemology with computer programming. Can a computer ever express an original idea that is not in its programming and actually understand what that idea means? No, of course not. Human creativity is spontaneous and endless. Computer "creativity" is pre-programmed.

@P T You clearly did not understand what I just said. I already answered that question. Read my first two sentences again.

This guy sounds like he's been learning CS since the womb. I bet his first words when he was born were "hello, world".

@chaost11 You're missing the point. AI is fundamentally incapable of creating anything new; only humans can.

@mystrdat So by your definition, a nuclear reactor is what, just a steam engine? Or perhaps a fire started by cavemen?
