My grandparents, on the "Cajin" side, and my father, were punished for speaking Cajun French in school, so much, that my father refused to even teach me, at that time I didn't know about any CODIFIL, my dad had even cussed me for asking. Since I grew up far away from Louisiane, at that time, it became impossible. I remember my grandparents, and great grandparent, would refer to others outside of Cajun, as being Le Anglish , the English, or, the Americans, they viewed themselves as "different" , and apart from those who weren't "Cajun." They were proud and still defiant of the others. I know that they suffered much.
