The police are not cowards. They do what they are told. It is called "duty", and the morality of it very much depends on how moral the bosses are.

@neilbarber2771 If I were a teacher, (and I may be someday), and able to carry a gun, I would. But with the civil "progress" of the nation today, (we did not used to have these shootings), I don't think I would want a job where I was not allowed to defends myself or others. You go ahead.
