I don't know why it is so hard to understand how Fischer made it look so easy. All of the players play from memorizing past games and theory, and apply them as they see fit. So the game scores will be pretty even. Fischer did all of that, and invented new strategy. He brought his own game that they had never seen before, and he smoked them like a pack of Camels. If Fischer were a boy in Russia learning the game, his hand would have been slapped for doing something differently. For a thinking individual, that can be easy stuff to beat.

Last sentence is wrong. "He was made to play chess", (vids starts like that too---mystical). That kid put in the "concentrated time". You would be surprise how many human beings can do that with a spirit and diligent learning like he did. The thing is,---he wanted to do it. All individual greatness happens the same way. Gives us something to look up to, and give something we love our best shot too. Gotta be free to do it. It can not happen under communism. To the communist chess players, chess is a game of rules that can not be changed, so they can put the effort in and know the rules will not change. Chess is an escape from the horrid reality, (can't win), of the communism they live under. I highly suspect Boris treated Bobby better than he did any of his "handlers". With respect,----and envy. A sad envy.

I didn't think he played with himself as a boy,---like that. I did not get a progressive education, so I don't think with my dink.

Don't you think it was great when that kid, with his own mind, beat the commie chess organization all by himself? That part of his life is actually such a great American story, the individual against the collective,--and the individual out thinks the entire communist nation. Wonderful. For some reason, the story is never told that way. Any idea why?

Boris, protesting to Bush to free Bobby from jail in Japan. Ironic huh.

Find and listen to Ayn Rands open letter to Boris Spassky from the time during the 72 world championship. Interesting.

I find it interesting on min 12:00. All those great players look so young. I wonder why that is? Not having a job is a big factor I am sure. They have the time to put in the time. Not sure if that is a great way to spend all that time though. I don't know if there are any rich chess players outside the best players, if so.

According to one documentary, and in line with the movie "Pawn Sacrifice", Fischer had a hearing impairment named something like "Hyper acoustics" or Hyper Thromboses" (A bit wrong with the term I think), that would magnify low volume sounds loudly in a quiet area. Stupid FBI. They could have used him to spy on his Mother. lol

In 1972 my elementary school started a chess club that I joined. Bobby Fischer did that, all across the nation. The club lasted about as long as he did.
2
He went off the deep end because he did not understand the world outside of the chess board. It is not uncommon for a person who is very good at one thing, to fall on their face in other disciplines. It did not help I am sure that his Mother was a communist and under surveillance, as he grew up looking over his shoulder and probably entering paranoia. My 2 cents.

@Froggele Because the opposite of communism is individualism, and Bobby Fischer beat the entire soviet state run chess organization by himself,---with ease. It was communism that was trying to prove that communism is the superior intellect,---but it all greatness comes from the individual,---and that is what Mr. Fischer proved. Too bad it is not what we learned from him. Yea, you could have been great at something too. The communist state would have slapped Bobby Fischer's hand as a young boy for working on "his" moves,---and here we sit in mediocrity or worse, proud as a worker ant.
1
@Froggele By the way, defining communism vs individual liberty,---your life does depend on it. Not a matter of opinion, but a matter of life and death. Do you know any of the history? Show be where communism is not force, and has not murdered its own citizenry. A friend of mine was just killed on a ventilator in a nationalized health care system a year ago.

I have no idea why the 92 match was not played where there would be no political trouble. Why not just move it? I have never heard an explanation.
1
That's a joke,---right? Heck, I think a 2 year old kid learning how to talk is figuring out reality more effectively, and by human nature, better than most college graduates can today.
1
I also doubt he had a IQ of 180. My bet is 120,---back then. He put so much time into chess, he could not figure anything else out.
1
Neither does teaching at a university today.
1
But I did not know who Bobby Fischer was in 72. I first heard about him after he died, playing a bit at a breakfast place.
1
I think it is for a lot of grand masters. But fischer,---"brought his own game", and that is how he single handedly beat the entire commie state of russia.
1
Correction. He did all the theory and memorization,---the brought his own game. But, that is a lot of memory to not have any intelligence.

I knew the vid would move into speculation. Up to min 9 was the bait. :) For example, he walked out of the 62 world championship in communist russia, because they did what commies do, conspired and cheated. It had nothing to do with scheduling. I don't expect the rest of the vid to be very accurate, and probably abusive.

Interesting vid. "Smart people don't need emotional support, they have their text books to get into." Wrong (sorry). Smart people need intellectual support and thought they found it in textbooks, but they did not. Most of it was propaganda. May be they were not that intellectual if they thought learning from progressives was a smart thing to do. We have not had a intellectual in the USA, since our founding fathers.
1
Nope. He should have blamed communism.

Boris clapping for Fischer's win to end game 6, was a testament that the citizens of the nations are not the governments of the nations.
