Towns just don't popup from sunshine and rainfall and grow into cities. There has to be a way to make money to build it. I would be very interesting, while visiting these old towns, what the income came from when the town was built, and the economic history since then. Did you know Manistee Michigan, a small town with more poverty than ever today, used to have the most millionaires per capita than anyplace in the nation? The lumber industry built that town. It then kept growing, and citizens prospering, (like most small town USA), during the expansion of factories of the citizen created industrial revolution. Then we started shipping our free enterprise to communism, (I know, the sound like opposites, but yes, they took it to fund communism.), so every little town now has their ghost section, and the citizen poverty rises.
I know we can do better than this, because we already did.
