I think my next vehicle will be one of these but since I never off road, it is great to see a summary of their strengths doing non off road things. I've built both online and they are within $5K the way I want so cost isn't factor. Oh and I love "unreliable" vehicles. I have: 2011 Jag XJ SC---92K miles 2012 Jag XKR---51K miles 2017 Alfa Giulia----42K miles Between all three I've replaced the water pump on the XJ two years ago. That's it.

The 4-cyl is the best all around Giulia. In AWD form, you can rip to 60 in 4.8/4.9 and cruise at 75 on the hwy for hours getting 36 mpg. Telepathic handling that is second only to Porsche and real butter soft Italian leather seats at a price Benz and BMW only give you vinyl.
14
Yes I do remember hearing that the 5.0l was being phased out. A BMW engine in this? NO WAY. Give me the I6 all day every day and twice on Sunday!!
11
Only for the 3rd owner who is too poor to fix them.... For the rest of us they are no worse than an Audi to keep running.

Very good cars; great even for the SS/ZL1 probably. However, Mustang and Challenger just did it better in all respects this generation. I'm not sold on whether an EV can ever be a "muscle car", no matter how fast it is. Maybe GM can pull off a "light refresh" like Ford has done with Mustang?
5
Dude its a Toyota. The plastic clips holding the undercar airflow panel are of higher quality than any Tesla entire vehicle is...
5
I agree. I do not believe all the people who buy a V8 Mustang or Camaro (or CLA 35 AMG) today will suddenly NOT want that in five or six years. Governments will have to flat out make them illegal and even then, I believe the aftermarket will just fill in. People want sound and feel out of cars they drive for enjoyment. EVs are fine for getting the groceries since you only need a toaster for that---an ID.4 is fine for that.

What a disaster----its like watching cross country travel by car in the 1920s. Can you imagine doing this with your wife and three kids???? All this tells me is that my 2011 JagUar XJ Supercharged, with its bulletproof Ford V8 and ZF trans combo, has nothing to worry about. I'll still be using it for road trips in 2030...
4
Built one with 22 inch wheels, full leather interior upgrade and a few other bits. $89K. Not really that crazy when you think a plastic and vinyl filled Hyundai EV with zero off-road or high-speed hardware is $69K.

Those comments are from poor people who can't afford to pay for the maintenance. I have two Jags; 11 and 8 years old. Run like butter.

My buddy has a '22 Palisade. It has a smooth comfy ride and pretty much all the basics covered in a 3-row CUV. It is not a truck by any means, and off-roading is a joke as it sits just as low as the Sedona minivan its based on. However he got it for $34K and I think that is a fair price for what it is. However in no Universe are you getting a "GLS for $30K less". I went to unload something while it was idling and I could hear a faint rattle from the exhaust. A 2022 with 10K miles. I have a 2011 Jag XJ that was $87K a decade ago. That is about $120K today. Almost 12 years and 100K miles and NOTHING on it rattles; as you'd expect as it represents FOUR TIMES the level of resources a Palisade does. A GLS is built to a similar standard and it is impossible for a Palisade to be in any way its qualitative equivalent. It is a Hyundai product. Never forget that.

Pretentious yes, lazy no. Lazy people cannot ever buy RR; only those that work can.

BMWs aren't THAT unreliable. I bought a 2012 Jag XJ SC with 50K miles 5 years ago, and its at 108K now, and I replaced the water pump and engine fan. That is supposed to be one of the most "unreliable" cars on earth and I spent about $1200 in repairs. I expect ANY German car to get me to 100K without issue; getting to 200K and beyond? No, I don't expect that. I generally expect 150K out of my American cars, 200K out of my Japanese ones, and 100K from any Euro---with normal maintenance , wear-n-tear only. Of course I can pay to make even the German go 250K, but who the heck would do that??
2
How is that even possible? My buddy just bought a base Palisade two weeks ago for $34K out the door. I don't believe anyone is paying these prices for "common-man" type vehicles. Raptors, TRX, Demons, Cayman GT4s, Z06s, yes, people will pay over to get niche vehicles like that. I don't believe people will do that for a Civic or a Camry or a Telluride , etc.
2
These are the best family road trip vehicles on earth. The IRS and MagnaRide , plus a 5.3l V8 that can get 22 mpg hwy with six people and all their luggage inside = unbeatable.
2
I had a 12 year old Toyota Land Cruiser with 140K miles that---I'm not exaggerating---not a SINGLE thing was broken, torn, loose, or not working when I sold it. Not a trim piece, not a rubber seal, powered anything----NOTHING. Right now I drive a 2011 Jag XJ Supercharged and the driver sun visor and front sunroof shade broke---in 90K miles. That is all. From what I've seen, I would never, EVER, not if I lived a thousand years, buy any Tesla.
2
Maybe break the engine in properly this time instead of driving it up the side of a mountain first????
2
Meanwhile the Bilstein Damptronics in my 11 year old Jag still working perfectly at 95K miles. Never even a single warning that the self leveling can't be done in over a decade. Don't make 'em like they used to I guess...
2
Grand Wagoneer Series III is no slouch; definitely better than Navigator and possibly better than the mighty 'Slade.
2
I fell asleep about the 2 minute mark....
1
Same thing they did with the LR Defender. Took it out and broke it immediately. LOL. Should change channel name to "The Fastest to Break a Car".
1
The looks of the new Challenger are spot on, however the EV only I'm not so sure of. Maybe by 2040 it will look like the right way to go in retrospect, but with Ford throwing down a new 5.0 V8 and even more powerful Dark Horse version, there is NO WAY a muscle head will buy this over a new 'Stang. This may get some Tesla types out of their crappy little Model 3s, but against a Mustang with a transmission you can shift yourself, roar of the mighty 5.0, sound of air rushing through intakes, feel of steering and brakes?? No way, no how.
1
Just like the new C8 with the electronic brakes!! First year of a new model! Enjoy finding all the problems for the rest of us! :-)
1
Right, brand new first year model vs. two dinosaurs where the kinks were worked out in 2010...makes sense.
1
Where is the /s ???
1
This car is electronic overkill for overkill sake; virtually none of its techno-wizardry fulfills any objective need (or want). No existing "S" buyer would want this; no Tesla buyer would want this (they are happy with lowest quality in the world, why would highest quality in the world even interest them?). No enthusiast would want this. It isn't beautiful like a Maserati or something where you can enjoy it just looking at it. There is zero emotion inside; a visual light show and that's it. It is a comfy cruiser, but so is every car over $60K. The Taycan succeeds in being a Porsche first, an EV second and that's why it is so desired. This isn't a "Benz"; at least not like any Benz before it. Those pillows on the headrests?? Vomit-inducing. This will be outsold 10 to 1 by the S-Class...
1
If you are going to beat it up of course that cheap one is the one to get. However even at $55K it would hurt my feelings to take my brand new off road vehicle into the scrub brush and mud for the first time. I'd almost prefer to wait 6 months, buy one used that already has a few scratches on it, and save $10K! My guess is 90% of ones sold will be the luxed up leather lined ones----reflecting exactly the percentage of US models that will ever leave pavement in their service lives....
1
That folding roof mechanism is just GUARANTEED to not be working in 4 or 5 years. You are talking a $66K convertible supercar. The roof mechanism on a convertible Ferrari 488 Pista probably costs $30K ALONE. You simply cannot reasonably expect such a mechanism to work reliably for very long---there is no such thing in life as a "free lunch".
1
This generation is the first TL I've been excited about since 2004. However, I just wonder why Honda is playing so conservatively here? 355 hp is nice, but you can get more than that out of a 4-cyl from Mercedes. GM has been getting 460+ out of their 3.0TT V6 for years. I don't see why they didn't swing for the fences; even though its old, Lexus just walked a 5.0l V8 back into the segment. The car has the looks of a lion, but the power of a cub....
1
It's just the appearance of off road. If that's all you want the Pilot or Pathfinder rugged look models are far better quality. This is still just a Kia.
1
Nobody wants an EV Mustang with AWD and no sound, no burnouts and electronically controlled brakes you can't even feel. That's fine in a grocery-getter like an ID.4 or Model Y, but a car you are buying to have fun?? HELL NAW.
1
My daughter is only 15 and won't need a college car for about 3 years, but this free money deal may be so good I'll buy this boring pod and just park it till she needs it.
1
Alfa's only problem in the US is dealers. People WANT their vehicles; they just are too far away from the dealer. Fix that and watch the money roll in.
1
No wonder there are so many California plates in my State. In CA so much taxpayer money is transferred from one group to another , you can buy a $50K car for $25K and the difference is paid by your neighbors.
1
This is crazy. Did you guys even break-in the engine on the first one? Who drives their brand new car into the mountains with 80 miles on the odo??? You guys broke the bloody thing.
1
Looked hard at this, really wanted it. However could not justify its expense over a Suburban High Country.
1
Yes and No.
1
Who worries about snobs because you drive a "base" Corvette?? 99.995% of the humans on the Earth would LOVE to be able to have a "base" 'Vette! I bought a '14 C7 1LT the only option was active exhaust. For years 0-60 blasts rowing through the gears, and hearing the cam profile change around 5800 rpm when I'm boring a hole through the air at 110 mph had me laughing like a little boy playing with his toys. $58K out the door. I passed on the C8 because for me, no stick = no point.
1
That looks like a fun car but that charging stuff would make me so angry I'd turn into Surtur and use a big flaming sword to destroy the Earth... NO THANKS! I'll be driving my '17 until 2037 it seems.
1
Tesla is not a luxury brand so it can't be compared to this. The Chevy version of this will compare better to a Model Y. A person who desires a Caddy would never consider a Tesla.
1
Is that real leather? Those German cars don't even have leather at their base prices, they give you cheapo vinyl; most of them with leather are $50K or more.
1
Y'all have a YT channel making hundreds of thousands of dollars a month. For you it's fine; just not for normal working people. If you can afford to do the maintenance and repairs, a used LR is fine
1
C7 was last "Corvette". This is great for what it is, but it isn't a 'Vette...sorry.
