Unbelievable what this country has become. Then again; the US has always kind of been this way. In 1941, after German Stuka's almost sank her, HMS Illustrious was sent to Norfolk Navy Yard for emergency repairs. She was there about three months, during which British sailors (virtually all of which had never been to America) wrote anguished letters home about how violent the US was. Bar fights between US army and navy guys, .45s pulled on Brits in nightclubs; they couldn't wait to get back on their ship and go back to the war where it was safer.
