  1. I'll never forget "the verdict". I was on lunch break from my job in a downtown highrise, the food court was packed and all the big screen TVs had the channel to the LA courtroom (yes kids, at that time no one carried a TV in their pocket). When the verdict was announced there was stunned silence....probably 500 or more people all in suits or a dress....utterly quiet. I quickly pivoted and headed straight for the elevator to get out of there because at that time I was 24 and fresh out of B-school; and I am black so at that moment there were probably 480 very angry white people in that food court and maybe 20 black people at the most. I was worried somebody may see me and take out their anger on me and I didn't want to ruin my very expensive new suit. You'll never understand it if you didn't live through it.
