Yet more proof of something I learned decades ago: "There are no unreliable cars, only unreliable owners"

LOL, first three among the top sellers for the past 22 years and counting... Here in Texas you see 20 year old Yukons running around like 20 year old Camrys.

Last fall I considered a LR Defender 130 and I called the dealer about ordering one; I stated right up front I'm not paying markup and if they mark it up when it arrives, I'll just go buy a Suburban. They guy said if you order it, we don't mark it up; but if you want one that we have sitting here in stock, there is a markup. I can somewhat understand that; a new model where production has not caught up with demand and you want it first, you may have to pay a premium. OK. However, the local Ford dealer with every F-150 on the lot having a markup? Hell no. Never going there again. Or, the ones right now that have the list of stupid dealer add-ons that cost $5K? Nope, never going there again. I'll buy a Subaru or Fiat for the rest of my life if I have to. Screw any dealer with markups.

They are Hyundai's and Kia's underneath, so of course the engines are just as likely to be recalled/replaced for fires, failed connecting rods, etc. These things are OK if you are coming out of a Hyundai or Kia or similar, and you are only leasing it. However, if you really want a BMW, just go lease a BMW. The idea this is equivalent to the Euros is fantasy. If leasing is against your religion and you must buy, forget all others and buy Lexus like most sane people do.

If you are an enthusiast, the Stelvio is probably only exceeded by the BMW X3/X3M; they are two of the very best you can get. Yes, if its your grandmother, or you are a soccer mom who couldn't care less about Formula One, of course don't even bother with an Alfa Romeo. Chevy, Kia, Ford, Toyota, Honda got you covered.

Have to keep those things out. If they let them in, some people will buy them and then they won't maintain them, the manufacturer support will be non-existent (forget about dealers), insurers will balk at insuring them, and they'll soon fill up the Copart lots and the "running from the police" vids. Just say 'NO".

I'd hang it on the chip shortage. I guarantee you half the people that bought a new car where the sticker clearly stated "no 12 way power seats, only 4 way-credit $50" or similar the buyer soon forgot that feature wasn't there, tried to use it, then complained it was "broken". You had $70K BMWs and Benzes being sold with manual seats LOL. Crazy times.

Do banks loan the "markup" value? I imagine the maker captive finance companies will (obviously to make the sale). I mean like Chase or Capital One, etc.-----will they loan 14% more than the market value for a car?
