  2. I really like this Mustang. However these are pretty much $70K cars now and frankly, no matter how great it is, that is within $15K of a Cayman T. I'm sorry if you work for a living there is no way you can pay that much for a Ford Mustang when a Porsche (A PORSCHE) is another $150 a month. The Mach I is a great $55K car that unfortunately costs $70K.

  3. If you don't need the "bougie" feel (and off road hardware of a RR), this is the one to get. This 5.0 has been in 200,000 Jags and Land Rovers since 2010----it is well known, lots of them out there, and all its weaknesses from a decade ago remedied. There is no reason you can't get 150K miles out of it if you care for it properly. The trans is ZF, bulletproof. A decade from now people at the car show will pay you just to hear you rev it.

  4. Before COVID I was commuting a lot and I bought a Prius only for that purpose. Two things keep in mind about Hybrids: 1. insurance is higher 2. the mpg gains mostly go away with highway driving. After two years I did the math and yes, it was saving me money over say a 20 mpg car, but vs a 30 mpg car it was almost a wash. I traded it for a Camry that gets 35 mpg hwy and is two planets apart in comfort and performance.

  7. Mercedes has decided (for now) to create a separate dedicated EV platform to sell alongside their gas cars. BMW has decided to keep the 7/5/4/3 design the same but give us the option of gas or electric (or hybrid). Based on looks, I like BMW's strategy because the Benz EQ series went way too far toward aero in their design and all look like bars of soap. Though I hate that beaver face, I'd buy this over any jellybean Benz EV 100 times out of 100. I also personally prefer my car to not be all "look at me! I am the future! I have 30 screenz!"; just give me the ** car I've been driving 20+ years already but with an electric motor thank you very much. This does not go up against a Model 3----Hyundai/Kia EVs go against Tesla. A BMW is all nine planets apart from a Tesla in quality, construction and luxury. This goes against Polestar 2 on low end, and....not much else. Benz has no EQC yet and Audi has not electrified the A4 yet. BMW kind of stands alone here atm.

  8. I bought a 2021 for my 16 yr old daughter, and tbh I was blown away by the quality of the Versa. I haven't had a small Japanese "beater" type car since the mid-1990s in college and I didn't expect much more than the same I felt when driving a 1995 Corolla or 2000 Lancer. The 20 year difference in comfort, refinement, and features kind of shocked me. The car was slow of course, but it got 44 mpg hwy and was butter smooth, quiet, handled well, heated seats, sound system better than that in $40K cars, ADAS tech, emergency braking, parking sensors, etc. I mean, unless you need to show off, what more does one need from a day-to-day vehicle? The Sentra is a little bigger, a bit better looking for just another $2K. I honestly would dump all my cars except my sports car and buy a Sentra for me and the wife and save $50K from buying all these "entry luxury" cars I've driven for 20 years. These small cars are that good.

  9. GM just changed what it means to be an EV. For years all we've heard is drag reduction (making the body and wheels ugly), weight reduction (making the interior look like an empty closet), and coding nerds needed to squeeze every electron for max efficiency. GM said forget all that isht: just make the thing have a battery big enough to power a battleship and you don't need to worry about drag or weight or efficiency. Make it how we want it, not how it "has to be". GDF'ing right. That is 'Murica!

  10. I'm personally not in the market for this type of vehicle, but I must say I feel a great sense of relief. When I first heard about the Tonale (and that it was based on the Jeep Renegade platform), I was very distressed. I know Alfa needs product, but an Alfa that handles like a Jeep is no Alfa. I am very happy to hear that Alfa stayed true to its heritage and with that 50/50 balance the Tonale handles like an Alfa Romeo should! Me and my Giulia Ti are no longer distressed. Gratzi! 🙂

  12. I'm 48 so this is all kinds of throwback for me. To see a new Integra on the road with a manual just takes me back to 1993; I'd love to have one of these but I refuse to pay markup so I'll have to wait a few years. Everything an enthusiast could want is marked up---even with rates now at 8% and overall car sales diving. All V-Blackwings are marked up; $50K for Escalade and $10K for CT4/5. All Nissan Z's are marked up. I tried to get a TLX Type-S PMC but every dealer wanted $5K to $10K on top of the already slightly bloated PMC price. Most Dodge stuff is marked up; only the regular R/T you may get at MSRP. The new M2 has $25K on top. You can't buy anything desirable without paying this BS extra "fee". Only thing you can get at or below MSRP is a Subaru...

However just today a 2007 TL Type S passed me on the highway and therein lies the major difference between the TLX and the M340: you will never see the M340i pass you 16 years from now...

  14. I giggle when 30 year olds wrinkle their nose at Mitsubishi. When I was in high school, in 1993 Mitsubishi arguably ruled the JDM sports car world. Their turbo and AWD tech was unmatched and only Toyota and Nissan could really compete with them; Honda's entire lineup couldn't hold a candle to Mitsubishi in terms of performance or AWD. Very few know this, Mitsubishi taught Hyundai how to build cars well enough to sell in the United States. Way back in 1988, it was Mitsubishi selling engines to Hyundai, licensing the Koreans to build Mitsubishi designs, etc. that allowed Hyundai to be what they are today.

  16. A 1997 Integra Type R had an msrp of about $25K, which is about $50K in 2025 dollars----so $54K is really not as crazy as it seems. It's just that for some reason $54K feels like an unreasonable amount for this because that same money gets you a 330i w/M-Sport, CLA 35 AMG, S3, etc. all of which have vastly superior hardware, interior quality, features, etc.

  20. To me the Camaro and Mustang handle too well to really be "muscle" cars. The Challenger is in a class of its own, imho. My problem is I need about $250K to buy a Hellcat, GT500, and ZL1...I want all three!! 🙂

  22. I've always felt that Caddy should have had an engine upgrade option on the XT6 to distinguish it from the Enclave/Traverse. This does everything right, but $75K is too much, imho. You can get a Suburban Premier for that which is superior to this in every qualitative way. At $65K this would be a slam dunk.

  25. Looks competitive, but not really ground-breaking in any way that I can see. Jag iPace was doing the dual motor , AWD performance , 260 mile EV thing five years ago. For $10K more you can get the Jag with stupendous leather-lined luxury and F1 handling; why really go for this at $58K? At $45K makes more sense up against ID4 and the HyunKia twins. I personally would always choose made by Japan over Germany or Korea all things being equal. The base Model Y starts at $58K but its garbage build quality can't make it worth the extra 40 miles of range (plus the Nissan gets the Federal tax credit making it even more insane to choose a Tesla option). When you analyze it, this is basically a shot directly into the "middle" of its segment; no aspect is really standout. However that is probably exactly the point Nissan is trying to hit.

  26. I really like this, but at $38K this is just too expensive for what it is. You can get a very loaded A3 Premium for that price with more power, real leather, and one of the best dual clutch transmissions ever.

  27. Did I hear you correctly??? 48 thousand for an Escape?? My local BMW dealer has 430i Gran Coupes all day long at $52K!! I know because I bought one! For another $6K I could've been in a 530i! On a lease you are talking $50 a month difference between this and a FIVE series BMW. Ford is huffing paint...

  28. I almost bought one of these a couple years ago as I'm a big JLR fan. They promised to sell it at MSRP if I ordered it but at the time they were only building the I6 w/mild hybrid and none of the standard I6. I just can't deal with unreliable cars anymore so I felt the standard I6 was the safest bet. It also didnt have a huge amount of room behind the 3rd row. I got a Suburban with the 5.3 instead and I have zero regrets

  29. The BMW will have a slight tech edge, but that Ford AJ V8 will last twice as long as any BMW V8 and the ZF trans is bulletproof. Not to mention the F-Pace looks better. THIS is the one to get before the EVs take over.

  31. I have 2012 Enclave which really mechanically is little different from the 2023 and the Traverse. Yes, 10 years and five kids means button labels are peeled off, plastic trim bits cracked, etc. However the leather has not a tear or bruise, and the engine still idles quietly at 155K miles. The only thing I'd do different is get the tow package with the trans oil cooler. Even though I don't tow, 7 people and their luggage on road trips in Florida, we'd climb a grade at 75 mph and the trans cooler temp warning would flash. At 65 mph it was fine. Other than that, its been a tank and I do not believe any Kia would make it 10 years and 150K without at least two engine out replacements.

  33. I read enough about the improvements Nissan made to the CVT around 2017 that I bought a '22 Versa with it for my high school kid. I was willing to give it a try as both the Versa and Sentra knock out their competition in virtually every other category. Heck even ZF, the maker of some of the best transmissions in the world mucked up a bit a few years ago on their transverse 9-spd auto from about a decade ago. They had huge problems but then after a few years worked it out.

  34. Jag is about to totally reinvent itself next year. I just hope they keep the things that made them "Jaguar": the fantastic leather, wood, carpet and general materials quality. The handling that only Porsche and BMW are in the same league. The sound----well the sound is gone forever, nothing they can do about that. 2 outta 3 aint bad...

  36. Looks like they got it 95% right; however for me the deal breaker is that iPad in my face. I hate that look with a passion; if that is optional then fine if someone else wants it. Also, for this kind of vehicle my preference would be a NA V8 for its longevity, on that alone I'd prefer the Yukon. Almost Ford, almost.

  38. I bought my first new BMW in 2000; an '01 325i Coupe with Sport/pkg. $35K out the door. That is about $58K today so this is what I'd be buying if I were 28 again. 🙂 My car had the 2.5l I6 at 170hp lol----this thing has almost 400!!! For about the same real world price!! You kids are lucky SOBs...

  40. These are very nice, but when I called my local dealer to inquire about the reservation I was considering they told me they were putting $5K markup on them. Which means over $70K out the door. Then I look online and a '22 Type S with less than 4K miles is $52K. HELL no is the PMC edition worth $20K more.

  41. If you want "I have the latest iPhone" flashiness, go GV70. If you want substance, there is only one choice. Stelvio does not have the biggest or the most up-to-date video game screen for sure. It has what matters; an all aluminum and magnesium suspension allowing it to run rings around even a Porsche Macan. Telepathic steering feel. Italian leather that won't be cracked and peeling 6 years from now. Actual aluminum paddle shifters mounted to the column. A carbon fiber driveshaft (yes even on the base model) which costs way more than steel because it is straight out of the racing world. The GV70 is skin deep; the Stelvio has "it" in its very DNA. That's all you need to know to make your choice.

  44. Joe you always crack me up with your "high speed run warmup routine"! My favorite part is watching the car behind you in the rearview mirror disappear when you floor it. I know how that feels as I have a 2012 XK-R with (only) 510 HP version of this engine, and when the F-Type came out I wasn't really wowed. I still think the XK looks better but 2017 was the year the F-Type caught my attention. The aero, the sound, the priority of sport more than luxury; this is when it actually became different enough from the XK for me to actually consider adding to my collection. Mine is 8 years old and roars like a---well, you know! :-)

  45. I got a 2022 Kicks for my college kid to get him into something much more modern than the (bulletproof) 2006 ES330 he was given when he finished HS. He liked the modern tech and the utility but hated how slow it was; after a couple weeks he asked for the old family Lexus back and he said he "missed that smooth 200hp V6". LOL. More power is what this needed the most; I still don't like the CVT, but I've heard if you change the fluid every 40K miles it will last 150K+. The old one wasn't ugly but was kind of basic looking, this looks a lot more "youthful". Nissan may be able to find success in the same place Mitsubishi has for years: simple, inexpensive, reliable, and good looking.

  47. It is hard to accept that a Corvette and a Mustang can be in the same sentence, but the Mustang steadily moved upmarket while Corvette (in base form) pretty much has held the line for 30 years. Yes, we are comparing the "top" of Mustang to the "bottom" of Corvette , but there has never been any overlap between these models, and now there is. On a track, even the hottest Mustang was a sliding, oversteering mess that a base 'Vette would run away from, never to be seen again. That began to end in 2015 and now here we are these two are very competitive on a track.

  48. Alfa Giulia Ti has more power, torque, looks and handles better. In the entry level sport sedan space BMW is no longer the BEST; you have to judge this vs. the Giulia. Is it just as good as the Alfa?

  50. Couldn't care less about a CUV but I hope they sell 200K of them to fund the next gen Giulia and hopefully a new GTV and 5-Series competitor! Love my Giulia!
