  1. Ukraine reminds me a lot of Imperial Japan in 1944. A vastly superior, inexorable opponent that they just cannot physically stop, slowly but surely taking waypoint after waypoint. Each one not a disaster by itself, but as more of them fall, the weight of their collective loss becomes oppressive. Yet, deep resentment and ideology (on both sides) prevents them from trying to end the war. A sense of fatalism on the part of the leadership....."we go to the bitter end"....as they would rather be finished than live in a world where they lost.
