  9. I'll never forget "the verdict". I was on lunch break from my job in a downtown highrise, the food court was packed and all the big screen TVs had the channel to the LA courtroom (yes kids, at that time no one carried a TV in their pocket). When the verdict was announced there was stunned silence....probably 500 or more people all in suits or a dress....utterly quiet. I quickly pivoted and headed straight for the elevator to get out of there because at that time I was 24 and fresh out of B-school; and I am black so at that moment there were probably 480 very angry white people in that food court and maybe 20 black people at the most. I was worried somebody may see me and take out their anger on me and I didn't want to ruin my very expensive new suit. You'll never understand it if you didn't live through it.

  10. Looking at his car, and just the entrance to his house, this man is a multi-millionare. If you are that conspicuously wealthy almost anywhere, you are going to be a target. He clearly is aware of this, and prepared himself accordingly. I have a vacation home in another state. When I go there, I drive a beater and dress like a bum because I don't know the entire city that well and can't be 100% sure if I'm in a "high-risk" area or not. I try to blend in.
