  1. It is the tree-hugging climate people that caused it. 25 years ago, Benz didn't hardly care about the fuel economy of its V8 engines; if you could afford it, you could afford the gas. So the engine was built like a tank, weighed what it weighed, and no one complained. Same for BMW and Audi. Fast forward to about 2010, and the "EV Apocalypse" nuts finally reached critical mass and started changing laws everywhere. Now, emissions became the #1 priority, and today German cars destroy their competitors in engine efficiency and mpg. However, there was a price to be paid. I have a 2021 Audi A4 and while I love the car, tbh the "efficiency" features built into it drive me absolutely insane. NO remote start. It won't idle more than 2 minutes without shutting off. Stop at a light and it shuts off 2 seconds after you come to a halt. It is INSANE the degree to which the DAM thing is trying reduce emissions. STOP IT!
