  14. Man, that reminds me of the grainy B&W film of night battles in the Pacific in 1943 when the USN and IJN were going at it. I feel like these cheap sea drones will change naval warfare just like the submarine did 120 years ago. That Russian ship was corvette-sized, the smallest class you can call "surface combatant", which means its no slouch. You could tell it was maneuvering hard, but it could never out maneuver a drone the size of a jet ski. Once it was disabled, it was easy meat for more drones. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

  26. If Russia lets Crimea and Ukraine be controlled by NATO, US and UK warships will sit in Sevastopol, a city with centuries of Russian naval history (named by Catherine II). US missiles will be 500 km from Moscow. That is like Russia putting warships in San Francisco or Portsmouth. To lose is to become slaves to the US; they would have no more sovereignty. If they invited the West to do all that is one thing, but for us to do it by force I don't blame them for fighting; I'd fight that too...

  30. I'll never forget "the verdict". I was on lunch break from my job in a downtown highrise, the food court was packed and all the big screen TVs had the channel to the LA courtroom (yes kids, at that time no one carried a TV in their pocket). When the verdict was announced there was stunned silence....probably 500 or more people all in suits or a dress....utterly quiet. I quickly pivoted and headed straight for the elevator to get out of there because at that time I was 24 and fresh out of B-school; and I am black so at that moment there were probably 480 very angry white people in that food court and maybe 20 black people at the most. I was worried somebody may see me and take out their anger on me and I didn't want to ruin my very expensive new suit. You'll never understand it if you didn't live through it.
