World War One did have a similar range of multi-faceted dimensions and inter-relationships, but at its core was the desire one man---Kaiser Wilhelm. He wanted an Empire like the one Britain had, not only because it made England filthy rich, but it gave the British immense world PRESTIGE. You cannot discount the latter as a motivating factor, because Wilhelm was the grandson of UK's Queen Victoria and watching the other side of his family rule half the world made him very envious. Even this however, was not enough. The generals of both Germany and France were all veterans of the Franco-Prussian War, and both sides still burned with hostility from the end of that war. Without those key dimensions, there would have been no WW1. Today we simply do not have one leader who openly wants to build an Empire by force. Fools think Putin is that person, but that is why they are fools. There also is no "family drama" fueling any of this at the national level as neither Democracies nor Dictatorships indulge Aristocracy. No World War Three----but a lot of regional wars going on simultaneously.

If only Biden, Austin, Milley, Blinken and Nuland had done all such analysis two years ago BEFORE embarking upon a path to war in Ukraine?? We have many "leaders", but few of them display any wisdom.
