  1. He thought an option was waiting until spring thaw, which is MONTHS away, to trek down the mountain. Definitely seems like the best plan, especially since he had no food or fuel to help with the extreme cold and windy conditions. And when he sees a bear ... instead of thinking about it as food and fur for additional warmth ... he thinks "Excellent! I'll let it rip me to shreds while still alive. Because that's definitely better than falling asleep and never waking up again." Did he really think those things or was it pulled out of the narrator's butt?
