@Josh-sw1mo You can't feasibly Arm a librarian, but you CAN teach them sound tactics and proper response planning..

The one that told them to hide under the desks?? I'm sorry, I know how stressful these things are but that was the most tragically bad advice possible. Nothing could've been worse.

@My 12 Spoons with Rose For years I've been working hard to dispell the myth of "shelter in place" as sound practice for, well, anything! Long before this bloody page in history. It wouldn't have worked in the cold war era when a nuke touched down within 20 miles of your location, or an earthquake, or an active shooter... It was a joke! And still is. But old habits are hard to break. Did you notice that most of the people who survived this ran out of the school? I teach my children to run, don't listen to anybody else just run away from the sound of fireworks, and take anybody you can with you that doesn't slow you down..

@AlphaOne Or, open your mind really wide now, we could bring the educational system out of the 18th century... "Judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree and it will live its entire life believing it is stupid" We need smaller and much more diverse classroom structure, we could begin to treat the causes of instability in our society.

@AlphaOne A lesserknown concept called treating the cause not the symptom. Give young people a vision, teach them something they're actually interested in in a smaller environment and these things won't happen.

@Kristin Kelly But there were (unfortunately) school shootings before Columbine, and it is the failure of the department of education to ignore the issue. It continues to fail us with its outdated and frankly ridiculous "shelter in place" response policy.

All I've been trying to do is highlight the futility of hiding under a desk, but on the topic of gun-rights I'll drop a quote from someone far more qualified than I The concept that the Bill of Rights and other constitutional protections against arbitrary government are inoperative when they become inconvenient or when expediency dictates otherwise is a very dangerous doctrine and if allowed to flourish would destroy the benefit of a written Constitution and undermine the basis of our government. - Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black

@Trump 2024 In that analogy you could call conservatives predators and liberals prey. Which they often behave like in these situations..

@staypositive5718 Whoa what crawled up your ass today? Yes she did her best, with woefully bad, cold war era mentally that is STILL being taught and advised to this day! And I want it to STOP. Stay positive

@Missing 911 A fair point. What I'm getting it though is that then as now we still do not have adequate training in these situations, for faculty at least and hit or miss for law enforcement. Unless they are right outside your door and you have missed every other opportunity to run. Even then it's not the best idea..
