JadeFalcon One ,
I’m not a big fan of Social Security, however you can’t actually call it a “Socialist program” since people pay into it. The government “employees” people and their “benefits” are no different than the private sector. Large Employers pay for things such as health insurance and retirement. I don’t see a big deal with those issues. I’m actually in favor of private schools...our public schools have been on a downward spiral since the late 50’s. Instead of raising the education standards, they continue to be lowered in an effort to make sure everyone passes (no child left behind policy in action). These days, the inner city schools are nothing more than dangerous, at best.
Now for the real issue (I don’t honestly believe you actually care about the other programs and that you are using them to make your point on healthcare). Through the years, I’ve had to deal with several VA facilities. The VA IS government provided healthcare. It’s horrible, in most cases. I want you to think about a few things...
1.) Wait times: in Europe and Canada, people have to wait for weeks or even months to even see a doctor. Some Canadians even cross the border to see a doctor in a timely manner (you can easily find stories by googling it). Are you willing to wait to see a doctor?
2.)The government, in single payer, can decide that treating your illness isn’t worth the money spent....In the UK, they can and have prevented people from taking their children out of the country for treatment, after deciding to let the child die. Do you really want OUR government to decide what you can and cannot be treated for?
3.) Our government is fraught with waste, abuse and corruption ...do you really think that will stop, if they control everyone’s healthcare!? Look at the VA...that is what single payer healthcare will look like and will probably be even worse.
I could go on, but IF you are really open to a discussion, you’ll see the truth in those three points. In closing, I’ll leave you with a quote, which you yourself can google and verify it’s validity.
“You want to guarantee that all people have access to health care as you do in Canada, but I think what we understand is that unless we change the funding system and the control mechanism in this country to do that-for example, if we expand Medicaid [to] everybody. Give everybody a Medicaid card-we would be spending such an astronomical sum of money that, we would bankrupt the nation.” Bernie Sanders
