The thing is, is there are some people who, even when experiencing loss in some significant way, often block it. Live in a state of denial. I know several people that don't even like discussing death and are in denial about other uncomfortable realities. Grief or loss will never be understood by those, even if they experience it, if they deny its reality. One thing I observed when dating was I would watch a conspiracy documentary with a woman and guage her reaction. If she was the type who immediately was dismissive, especially if it went against everything she was taught or believed in prior, I found those women easier to cheat on. Because any uncomfortable truth or painful realization was denied and blocked. If a person doesn't accept objective facts they never experience loss at an equal level consciously. Perhaps their subconscious does in nightmares or anxiety dreams but not consciously.
