The major problem with all the long-term "buy your residency" programs is the large amount one has to deposit in FIXED accounts! If a potential resident is attracted by the $1,500 USD monthly income requirement, it's highly unlikely that person will have the wherewithal to put $150,000 to $1,000,000 in a FIXED deposit for a program like MM2H ("Malaysia My Second Home.") As far as "95% never return," the availability of a "Golden Visa" won't make any difference. One or two trips through Passport Control at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City is generally enough to kill anyone's desire to return.

Hanoi often leads the world for poor air quality!

I'm in Vietnam quite often and was thinking of moving there, but, ultimatly decided against it. Why? Air Quality is abysmal, with Hanoi often being in the Top 5 of "worst in the the world." Next problem is similar. The country is being turned into a giant trash dumpster and the government's doing nothing about that either. Sorry! It COULD be a wonderful place to live, but no entity in a position of authority seems to care.

Saw the price and immediately thought "Thailand!," which is becoming incredibly expensive.

Pardon, but that's about what a similarly-sized apartment with similar amenities would go for in my moderately-sized U.S. City of ~550,000! (P S. "Ocean view justifies the price." Hardly "ocean view!")

Thank you for saving me some time. I'm American, but thinking of making a permanent move to Hanoi later this year. One big "if," however, is the affordability and, of course, availability of medical care as well as insurance plans for expats. This video would've wasted my time as well.

In my experience, the worst airport iin S.E. Asia is, hands-down, SGN (Ho Chi Minh City.) One example? Arrived at 05:35 for an 08:55 flight to Japan, planning to get through Security in time to hit a club for breakfast. Emerged from the queue very nearly 2:45 hours later! I've NO doubt the officers were intentionally dragging their feet! I avoid SGN whenever possible now.
