My relatives traveled to Russia for the 2018 World Cup. They spent a week in NYC just prior to staying in Russia for three weeks. They said that the day they landed in Russia was the day they realized we really do live in 1984 novel - the dilapidated subway, roads and airports, the smell of urine, the homeless of NYC is considered the "first world". While the very well maintained infrastructure of Moscow (and even small towns in Russia) is third world craphole. They intentionally got out of touristy areas to see how real Russians live, and while they saw some areas that were less that desirable including the unsightly Soviet apartment blocks and ad-hoc garages, they always felt safe and didn't see a single homeless person or crazy person.

I got inspired to take a closer look at Russia as a coutry and compared when the US. Some fascinating stats. Homelessness rate in the US is 24x higher than in Russia. Automobile theft in the US 30x higher than in Russia. Incarceration rate 1.77x higher in the US... While Russians earn significantly less, their expenses are significantly less Cell phone plane with unlimited data $4-7 a months. 1 gig fiber optic home Internet - $5 to $10 a month. Satellite TV 500 channel $6 a month. Utilities $20 bucks for all... Consumer satellite Internet $6-$15 a month.

@АндрейРощин-х6л that's awesome. I pay $130 for 1 gig home Internet, and $70 for a cellphone with unlimited voice and text but only 10GB of data...
