I told them - in Russia the people protesting Putin's last re-election were detained, cited ($30-90 dollars) and released on the spot. The Americans who protested Biden's election are still in prison 3.5 years later. Which country is the dictatorship again...

We are an American family that have lived in Russia for 9 years now. I look back with dread living in the US and being convinced that I lived in the freest and the best country on the planet. Watching my compatriots who talk about NK and how brainwashed they are is so cringe, because I'm looking at the Americans the same way now - absolutely brainwashed and unable to tell the difference between their FREEDUMBS and real freedoms. Real freedom doesn't mean the right to crap on the sidewalk, or steal without being punished, or running around insulting everyone. Those are your FREEDUMBS. To me freedom means is not having to worry about being shot in the face during traffic stop, not paying half of my paycheck in taxes, not worrying about my car getting stolen, or losing the house right after losing a job, it getting a medical bill that I can't afford. Basically to me freedom is freedom from constant anxiety and worry and in that sense Russia is way freer that the US. My only wish is for the US to stop shoving its idea of freedom on everyone. Not everyone has the same values and for a country that claims to promote diversity and plurality of ideas it sure as hell loves acting like a dictator trying to impose their own ideas on everyone.
